Keowee Lake is one of the premier lakes in the southeast. Built as a water source for a Duke Power Plant, water levels in Lake Keowee tend to be more stable. Lake Jocassee, to the north, acts as a feeder lake for Keowee. The water in Keowee is relatively clear, and if you drive across the dams on SC Hwy 130 on a sunny day, the lake takes on a blue color offering some breathtaking views.
For the boating and fishing enthusiast, Lake Keowee provides great recreational activities. And Lake Jocassee, a 6,500 acre lake feeding into Lake Keowee, offer trout fishing; it has yielded record sized Brown Trout of over 17 lbs., and Rainbow Trout of 11 lbs. Another alternative is the 56,500 acre Lake Hartwell that starts below Seneca. Lake Hartwell is the most visited lake in the SE, and hosted the 2008 Bassmaster Tournament with the winner of the three day event recording a catch of 49 lbs. 7oz. Lake Hartwell is also noted for its striper bass fishing which has yielded a state record striper weighing in at over 59 lbs.
Waterford Pointe is located in the foothill region of SC, hence the mountains of SC are only a short drive away. Easy day trips from Waterford Pointe can include visits to nearly 100 waterfalls in NC, SC, and GA, or you may just prefer to enjoy the hiking and outdoor adventures of Sumter National Park and nearby state parks.
Seneca offers good shopping and a variety of restraurants. And adding to the diversity of the area is the city of Clemson is only 10 miles to the SE. There you can enjoy the cultural, scholastic, and sports activities associated with Clemson University. If you prefer visiting a larger community, Greenville, SC lies about 30 miles to the east. It is a progressive city with a charming and active downtown area, which offers a wide variety of restraurants, shopping, and cultural activities.
