VERDMONT is a one of the exciting newer neighborhoods in the greater Greenville area.  It is located about 13 miles SE of downtown Greenville and 4 miles SW of Simpsonville.  Being only 2 miles from I-385, Verdmont has become a very attractive community for Greenville commuters that desire the more relaxed living offered by the neighborhood’s open green space and the village type atmosphere.  I-385 has fostered both residential and commercial growth.  As a result, convenient commercial retail goods and service areas have developed just a couple of miles north of Verdmont.

The Verdmont community features a peaceful setting of Craftsman styled homes nestled around 12+ acres of parks, ponds and common grounds.  The jewel of the community is Martin Park, a beautifully landscaped central park area that includes a picturesque pavilion, paved walking path and a pond/stream water feature.  In spring flowering trees, the formal garden, random benches, an arbor with seating and a well manicured lawn makes this an attractive area for quiet walks, jogging, bicycling, relaxing or for other outdoor activities.  Our photographer found this central park area so appealing, that on his first visit, he got side tracked and spent over an hour just walking and enjoying the beauty and tranquility of the park

Venture away from the central Martin Park: and you quickly find that Verdmont has a great deal more to offer.  Community amenities are spread across Verdmont.  These include a number of quiet, shaded pocket parks within easy walking distances of the residential areas; including the large Satterfield Park with picnic area and a covered shelter.  Verdmont has over 12 acres of open space and common grounds for outdoor activities.  These include a two ponds, a beautiful swimming complex with a resort style pool, oversized pool side arbors, and a nice playground area for children.  The community is designed to add to the quality of life for the residents of Verdmont.

The architectural flavor of the community is a Craftsman style.  A variety of quality builders have been authorized for construction thus creating a nice mixture of floor plans in single and multi-story designs.  Exterior designs feature wood or wood & stone appearing elevations.  One of the most distinguishing features found in Verdmont homes are the large, covered porches geared for outdoor living.  Garages are normally placed behind the homes with some being reached by rear roadways.  The 2004 Verdmont Restrictive Covenants require at least 1600 sq. ft. of living space.  Most homes are much larger with some homes exceeding 3500 sq.ft.

The Verdmont neighborhood presently has about 160 lots; almost half are adjacent to common grounds.  Lot sizes vary from .1 to .65 acres with the average being close to .18 acres.  The smaller lot sizes bring homes closer together allowing neighbors to talk with each other from the comforts of the front porches.  Likewise, homes are close enough to the front sidewalk to encourage conversations with a passerby thus creating a community that has more of a small village atmosphere.

The community has a Home Owners Association established and governed by a 37 page “Declaration of Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions.  This provides guidelines for the community and home owners and establishes an Architectural Control Board to assure the long term continuity, control, and preservation of the community.

Newer plantings of trees and bushes and the emphasis on nicely landscaped yards assure that time will only increase the attractiveness of this community.  If you enjoy living in a neighborhood which invites outdoor activities, you should take the time to visit and “experience” Verdmont.
