GREENVILLE LIBRARY: A Fantastic Community Resource

SUMMARY
The Greenville Library is a great resource for residents of Greenville County, SC. With a number of branches and a variety of programs available – the Greenville County Libraries serve a large population in the Upstate region of South Carolina.

As the second largest public library in the state of South Carolina – the Greenville library serves the residents of Greenville by providing a number of great services. Besides the large collection of over 1 million available resources – the library also has a bookmobile, 11 separate branches, and some wonderful programs available for every member of the family.
The 11 branches of the Greenville County Libraries are anchored by the main branch – the Hughes Main Library located at 25 Heritage Green Place in Greenville, SC. Begun in 1921 with a collection of 500 books, the library system has grown and expanded as the population of the county and Upstate region has grown.
The Greenville library system offers free internet access to the public as well as a huge collection of books, DVDs, music, and online resources. The librarians are experienced and well trained in providing research assistance and genealogy help and research. They also run a number of community enrichment programs available to families and individuals.
The Greenville library hosts a popular ‘Family Friday’ series where they invite artists, musicians, actors, and puppeteers to put on shows that are free to the public and held once a month on a Friday evening. These shows are popular with children and families and are a great evening of entertainment that is sponsored by the Greenville County Libraries System.
Along with the popular Family Friday series – the library system offers a number of educational and community based programs that are free of charge and available to residents of Greenville and Greenville County, SC. Bilingual story times, arts and craft projects and seminars, and local author meet and greets are just a few of the types of programs that are provided. They even have regular and popular game nights for families which feature Wii games as well as board games.
Serving the rural areas of Greenville County, SC is the Greenville Library’s Bookmobile. Air conditioned and heated, the bookmobile’s routes and times are available on the library’s web site. Items checked out from the bookmobile can be returned to the bookmobile itself or any of the Greenville County Libraries.
Another great service that is provided by the Greenville library is the meeting room space that is available for patrons. There are rooms available at all branches of the library system and are available on a first come and first served basis. Reservations can be made by calling the library or visiting their web site. The library’s meeting rooms are great places for book clubs, presentations, or meetings.
