ANDERSON COUNTY GOVERNMENT – Working to Provide for every Resident

SUMMARY
The Anderson County, SC government works hard to provide services through a number of divisions for all of the residents of Anderson County. Made up of an elected  county council – the county government is divided into a number of divisions that provide various county services.

ARTICLE
Anderson County border Georgia in the Upstate region of South Carolina. The Anderson County, SC government has a council-administrator type government which is mandated by the laws of the state of South Carolina. Each of its council members serves for 2 years. There are 7 council members from 7 districts in Anderson County. The county administrator and the county council act and work together to best represent and provide for the residents of the county.
Along with a number of boards and committees – the Anderson County, South Carolina government’s County Council oversees ten distinct divisions.
• Anderson Sports and Entertainment – This division oversees and manages the Civic Center, the William A. Floyd Amphitheatre, and the Anderson Sports Center. These venues play host to a variety of events throughout the year from concerts and plays, to sporting events and trade shows.
• Working to support, create, and recruit new industries within Anderson County – the Economic Development Division of the Anderson County, SC government works to keep Anderson County competitive within the various industries (i.e. automotive and plastics) in the Upstate region of South Carolina. One of the main goals of this division is the development of new jobs in Anderson County.
• As with any government, a number of facilities and buildings are managed and maintained by the Anderson County, SC government. The Central Services division is tasked with the job maintaining and updating county buildings and property.
• Emergency Services is made up of the EMS and 911 services as well as animal control and litter control. The main task of this division is to protect and serve the residents of Anderson County.
• Anderson County, SC government finances are managed and overseen by the Finance Department. Residents can also pay sewer and waste bills at this department’s office.
• The Planning Division is charged with overseeing county growth and planning. Zoning regulations and building codes are maintained by the Planning Division – as well as long term plans for roads, county facilities, and housing developments.
• By providing community education as well as resources and facilities the Environmental Services Division tries to make Anderson County a better place to live and work. Parts of this division manage and maintain solid waste removal, recycling programs, and the animal shelter. This division also runs a summer camp for children ages 5 – 10 in which the focus is on environmental concerns and the county they live in.
• From road maintenance to airport development – the Transportation Division is a vital part of the Anderson County, South Carolina Government. With a fleet of over 700 vehicles to maintain and over 1500 miles of roads, drainage ditches, signs, and other transportation related items – the Transportation Division of Anderson County keeps makes the county an easy place to live and work.
• The Community Relations Division is tasked with making all county services and government information easily accessible to county residents. By providing information on events, services, and community service opportunities – the Community Relations Division works hard to keep all of its residents informed.
